TL;DR

The grinders manual is without a doubt the best 6 max poker book for beginners on the planet. I am confident that there will also be plenty for more advanced players also.

It can take you from a complete novice stuck and suffering at the lowest stakes to a dependable and strong poker force, that effortlessly masters 100NL (50c/$1 blinds). It goes without saying, that this requires you to do more than just read the book from start to finish. There is a lot of work to do, to get there - and this book lays out the roadmap for you.

You will get preflop ranges, learn when and how to deviate from them. If you work your way through this book, you will have a rock-solid base to keep you ahead of the game.

Grinders Manual 1
The only 6-max poker book, you will ever need. Covers preflop play and ranges, pre- and postflop strategy, math and everything else necessary.

This treasure is a must read.

The Grinder's manual is without a doubt the best and most complete poker strategy book I have ever read. The book has everything you need to build a solid poker 6 max strategy, which again is the key secret of how to win in poker in the long run. It starts with the basics and moves slowly but steadily towards more complicated parts of the game and theory. Any reader, who also actively works on implementing these chapters into his/her game, will inevitably become a much better player.

Normally I prefer to write these reviews myself, but in this case, the author has described better than I could word it, what you can expect from the book:
This book is for the beginning player, the aspiring novice, the intermediate player, and the seasoned player who wants to improve his or her core understanding of the game. All but perhaps the very strongest players in the world will learn something from reading this book. This is a serious textbook that treats poker like an academic subject.
Do not let this scare you. The logic and clarity of thought presented all the way through this book, makes it very easy to read, which is not the same as saying, that it easy to implement the ideas in your own game. There is some really advanced poker training, to work on, in every single page of this book.

The only 6-max poker book, you will ever need. Covers preflop play and ranges, pre- and postflop strategy, math and everything else necessary.

Keep it simple

The author follows the idea behind from Albert Einsteins quote:
Everything should be made as simple as possible, but no simpler.
The book is ... the first poker text ever to include all and only those technical poker topics mandatory for a complete game strong enough for the reader to crush his way through the micro stakes, establish himself as a winning player at 100NL (50c/$1 blinds) and set up a solid basis for going further. The book really is the best self paced advanced poker training I have seen in print.

A lot of aspiring poker players are scared of the math involved. This book does have some math in it, but again nothing more than what is  necessary. In his own words: "I deal with the mathematics of poker in this manual to exactly the extent that I think is appropriate for the aims of the book. The manual does not scrimp on any necessary math, but avoids overly complicated in depth mathematical material that has very restricted practical application. The rule for poker math is exactly the same as that for the rest of the book: lots of detail, but not a drop more than is necessary to become a very strong player".

Poker strategy in practice

All the theoretical material is explained further in the 152 hand examples, which even though it sounds like a lot, is considered a 'bare minimum' by the author. For those who can not get enough poker strategy through hand histories, Peter Clarke has also penned another book, where he explains poker 6 max strategy concepts for the hands. This book (aptly called '100 hands') is a great companion to the grinders manual.

The only 6-max poker book, you will ever need. Covers preflop play and ranges, pre- and postflop strategy, math and everything else necessary.

How to win in poker

Clarke spends no less than 8 pages on UTG opening range, covering why we may decide to open from UTG, as well as how and when to adjust the default opening range and opening size. Nothing is left to circumstance - everything is explained in full detail.

Having covered everything you will ever need to know about the strategy behind 6 max opening ranges, reasons and size from every position, Clarke methodically moves on to more and more complex subjects, and even though some chapters do require more than one read through (at least for me it did), you never get that feeling of having absolutely no clue about what is going on. I sense that the author has spent a substantial amount of time considering how to best explain his thoughts behind his 6 max poker strategy

I truly believe that it is possible for any reader, who actually spend the required time and effort on implementing each chapter into his or her online poker play, to learn how to win in poker. On the other hand, if you just read the book, and then move on to the next one, chances are, that you will not see much improvement.

What to learn from this book

Some would say that working hard to implement the poker strategies presented in this book would be a massive overkill for beating the micro stakes. This is probably true, but if you plan to grow as a well-founded poker player with a solid strategy, you need to begin implementing the solid strategy at some stage. I do not believe that one can play one game at NL 2, and then change to a completely more balanced and solid game at NL 25 for instance. It must be way better to build your game up, from the ground, and leave your opponents feeling, that they hit a brick wall of solid play, whenever they engage in a battle with you.

The Grinders manual is highly recommended for any poker player, who is devoted enough to spend the necessary time and effort on perfecting all these ideas and concepts, and if you do it right, it will let you feast on a massive profit later on in your poker career.
